CVWD is proud to be a part of a coalition of water agencies that successfully fought against a proposed statewide water tax on behalf of our customers over the last two years! The Governor’s proposal would have required CVWD and other water agencies throughout the state to collect a monthly tax from their customers. The statewide water tax would have affected CVWD customers by as much as $600,000 each year with no local benefit to our service area.
CVWD Board members, along with the coalition made recommendations for a more equitable and appropriate solution to this complex problem. The new proposal includes using revenue from the State’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and General Fund to help address the issue of safe drinking water for disadvantaged communities in California that do not currently have access to safe drinking water.
“On behalf of our community, the CVWD Board of Directors take our responsibilities as elected officials to represent our customers very seriously. Our Board Members, Luis Cetina, Kathleen J. Tiegs, Randall Reed, and Oscar Gonzalez along with staff have been working very hard against the proposed tax on water for over two years now. We are very excited to see the Legislature hear our concerns and find an alternative solution to address the issue of safe drinking water for all Californians,” stated CVWD Board President James V. Curatalo Jr.
