Rancho Cucamonga, CA – The Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD/District) hosted its Water Savvy Garden Tour on April 23rd, to demonstrate the value and beauty of water savvy landscapes. Participants joined the self-guided tour to learn how they can make changes in their yards to be more water efficient. Over 100 participants gained knowledge and motivation to transform their high-water using landscape into an attractive, low-water using landscape.
Participants were given maps, materials, and plant lists to guide them on their tour as they visited 15 examples of water-saving landscapes throughout the community, including residential landscapes that were previously selected as winners for CVWD’s Landscape Contest. By viewing multiple variations of attractive, water saving landscapes, participants are inspired to make improvements in their own landscapes, resulting in water savings while beautifying the community.
“What a wonderful way to highlight the homeowners who have water saving landscapes in our community,” commented a garden tour participant. “I was particularly impressed with the variety of landscaping styles available for the purpose of conserving water. Creativity is certainly the name of the game and many of the designs were just beautiful.”
The featured landscape owners in the tour graciously welcomed participants and spoke with them one-on-one to share their experiences, offer tips, and share resources to assist them in transforming their own yards. Many of these landscape owners have participated in CVWD’s landscape workshops over the years and were able to do some of their projects themselves.
“CVWD would like to thank the featured landscape owners for being our ambassadors and educating the community about the importance of having a water efficient landscape through our Garden Tour,” stated CVWD President Randall Reed. “Being water efficient is always important, especially during a drought, and the tour highlights how our community has taken the necessary measures to be drought resilient.”
CVWD offers many landscape programs to assist customers in saving water, including educational resources, rebates and more. For information about water wise programs please visit CVWDwater.com or call (909) 987-2591.
