CVWD Celebrates Local Students for Inspiring Water is Life Artwork
Rancho Cucamonga – On Wednesday, May 11, the Cucamonga Valley Water District (CVWD/District) celebrated seventy-six local fifth grade students at the Fifth Grade Poster Contest Awards Ceremony. This year marked 33 years of hosting the poster contest which encourages students to use their creativity and learn about the importance and value of water. CVWD Board of Directors recognized the student artists, along with over 300 family members, teachers, school administrators, and elected officials during the awards ceremony which took place at the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center’s Celebration Hall in Rancho Cucamonga.
Highlights of the event included a red carpet experience, an art exhibit showcasing the Water is Life posters, refreshments, and more. All student artists were announced and presented with certificates of recognition from CVWD as well as certificates from Senator Rosilicie Ochoa Bogh, and San Bernardino County Second District Supervisor, Janice Rutherford. Additionally, student artists received a gift card to Barnes & Noble, a reusable water bottle, and other school materials that feature the student artwork. Paige Marszalek from Windrows Elementary School was honored as the 2022 Poster Contest Sweepstakes Winner for her artwork which demonstrated the importance of water.
When asked what inspired her poster, Paige stated, “I just thought of life and because I live by a lot of nature, I drew my outdoor environment which is surrounded by water and thrives because of water.” As the Sweepstakes Winner, Paige received an Apple iPad Mini, and her teacher, Mrs. Battista, received a personalized travel mug and Quakes baseball swag bag donated by the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
“CVWD congratulates all fifth grade artists for their inspiring Water is Life artwork which reflects the importance and value of water in our daily lives,” stated President Randall Reed. “I am so proud that we celebrated thirty-three years of the Fifth Grade Poster Contest and will continue to do so to inspire our future ambassadors to value and appreciate life’s most precious natural resource, water!”
